Bifocal and mulifocal lenses have a distance and near zone in the lens. The near zone aims to relax the eye muscles when doing close work such as using the phone or laptops and aims to slow down your eyes from getting worse.

Bifocal lenses have a distinct horizontal line in the lens and is better at controlling myopia than multifocal lenses. However, due to cosmesis, some patients prefer using multifocal lenses where the line is invisible.

Bifocal and multifocal lenses are the least effective choice of all the myopia control treatments (Atropine eye drops, Orthokeratology, myopia control soft contact lenses) but they are better than having no treatments at all. These lenses are sometimes used together with Atropine eye drops to combine the effectiveness of the treatment.
