If you are receiving Centrelink benefits, you may be eligible for free glasses from the NSW Government Spectacles Program. To apply, please bring in your “Income Statement” from Centrelink.

Two ways to obtain an Income Statement to check your eligibility.
1. Directly via a Centrelink Branch. Please click here to locate your local branch.
2. Online via a MyGov account. Please click here for instructions on how to download your Income Statement.
Note: You must link your Centrelink account to your MyGov account in order to access this service.
Below is a sample of the statement.

  • Be an Australian permanent resident and resident of NSW
  • Receive the maximum rate of a full benefit or pension (e.g. aged pension, disability support pension, newstart allowance etc.)
  • Receive no additional income aside from their Centrelink payment
  • Have cash/savings or assets less than $500 (if single) or $1000 (if married/partnered, or with dependents)
  • Be ineligible for any other spectacles subsidy schemes

Special conditions exist to provide for single parents receiving maintenance, residents of remote areas, or return applicants experiencing a significant change in vision within two years.
