Diabetes can cause damages to the blood vessels inside the eye, causing it to bleed (which you may not even notice in the early stages) and can lead to vision loss and blindness. When detected early, treatments and lifestyle modifications can help prevent vision loss and may even reverse the damages done to the blood vessels.

Whether you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, it is important to have regular eye examinations. We generally recommend once a year or more often if there are concerns with your eyes. A report will be sent to your family doctor once this diabetic eye examination has been done. It is therefore recommended that you bring along your doctor’s details to the eye examination.
